For many pages, this is a rather boring read. It gets exciting when Gwen, the heroine, begins investigating the death of a fellow student at Mythos Academy. Gwen feels like the odd one out since she doesn't have any of the skills the other students exhibit so many pages are devoted to her feelings about that and her interactions with other students because how she feels about herself. Of course, she is still experiencing grief feelings about her mother's death so perhaps some of it is understandable. Just felt that too much time was spent on that aspect. Of course, the reader discovers at last why Gwen is at the academy but I'll leave that secret for others to discover. This is an OK read - probably 2.5 stars for me but I just couldn't give it 3. However, if one likes fantasy one might wish to discover for themselves how they feel about this novel.
