Tasha Alexander is scheduled to meet her boyfriend, Prince Tedric, and his family while they are vacationing in Maine. Tasha's Uncle Alan is worried about her safety. He asks Navy SEAL Thomas King to be her bodyguard and escort her to Maine. Thomas is reluctant. He has known Tasha and her uncle since he was a teen. He remembers five-year-old Tasha claiming she was going to marry him someday. He also remembers her undressing and climbing into his bed a few years ago. Even though nothing happened, Thomas is embarrassed about the whole situation. As Tasha and Thomas get closer to the compound where the Prince's family is staying, their driver stops the car and things go horribly wrong.
I was a big fan of the Tall, Dark & Dangerous series, so I was happy to hear the author was continuing the series. Both Tasha and Thomas appeared in the original books. I vaguely remember them. This story started out well with lots of action. Unfortunately, that didn't last long. Tasha and Thomas find themselves hiding from the bad guys in an uninhabited area of Maine, hoping that Uncle Alan will send help when they don't check in. They eventually make their way to Tedric's compound where they hide in an underground bunker. At that point they talk, and talk, and talk about themselves and their relationship. Tasha tells Thomas over and over that she loves him and he shouldn't think of her as his sister. He insists that he is only there to protect her. This culminates in the most boring sex scene I've ever read.
I listened to the audiobook narrated by Dion Graham, Patrick Lawlor, and Melanie Eubanks. I am a fan of Lawlor and Eubanks, but she wasn't up to par in this story. Her narration sometimes sounded robotic. Maybe the discussions between Tasha and Thomas were putting her to sleep. My rating: 2.5 Stars.
