This was bit of a surprize for me as I had expected Charlie Chan mystery. The setting is mid-1930's Japan, the central character a disgruntled Americn aviator, drinking his way into oblivion. The plot includes well meaning friends, a beutiful White Russian refugee, agents willing to use the aviator for politcal schemes and then Mr. Moto, number one secret agent for the Japanese government.
Written in 1935 and read just before Veterans Day 2020,it made me pause to consider possible outcomes.
