Happy sigh...
The Bride Price is a surprisingly nuanced and rewarding romance. The first half of the book the hero and heroine carefully circle each other - physical attraction is overpowering them. You wonder if Anne Mallory is planning to tell us a story of lust = love. But then she shows us romance, friendship, companionship, and that je ne sais quoi that spells love.
We witness a slowly built love story, a complex situation and a compelling reason why the hero might choose to win this competition instead of taking love. Mallory writes sumptuous steamy love scenes that are rewarding after the build up.
My only complaint is that the ending was a bit...open. I felt a bit of uncertainty about how the couple wound up in their HEA.
