In the Midwest in 1860 a Presbyterian ministers wife does not agree with his stance on all subjects so he attempts to prove her crazy which doesn't take much and has her locked in the state of insane asylum in Illinois. The only way that she can get out of there is to convince people that she's not crazy at that time the husband Was the law over the wife and whatever he said went even if it was a lie.
