I was really impressed with this book! It tells the story of Dinah, a woman briefly mentioned in the Bible as being the daughter of Jacob, who was raped and her brothers avenge her by killing that man and all the men from his city. Jacob is well known person from the Bible, as are many of his sons, but only that little bit is mentioned about his daughter. I love how this book gives Dinah (and consequently other women from the Bible) a clear personality and identity. Jacob's wives are given clear personalities and identities as well (some are better noted in the Bible than others). I feel that this book tried to present the life of women during biblical times as accurately as possible, showing their common bonds through various stages of life (childbirth and child-rearing, menstruation periods spent in the Red Tent, death, etc). Dinah is painted as being strong-willed and intelligent, though bound by the societal norms of the time. I honestly can't say enough about it & I fear saying too much in fear of spoiling in, so just go read it! :-)
