It's time for the annual Effington Christmas ball, where each year Jonathan Effington chooses a lady to woo. He's set his sights on a most agreeable woman when he's sidestepped by Fiona Fairchild, who has been led to believe that he wants a wife and it's going to be her.
Fiona desperately needs him to secure her inheritance, and Jonathan thinks he can help her by collaborating on a book combining her drawings (of shockingly naked men) and his plot. Together, they'll make publishing history.
Only Jonathan never plans to get the book published, he's just trying to help Fiona. But he enjoys her wit and wants to keeping working alongside this intriguing woman. With a little help from their friends, this tale ends, as all the wonderful Effington stories do, with love and joy.
