This is definitely NOT a book one should read as a "first Kelley Armstrong book". I'd never read any of her stories, and picked this up cheap at a local used bookstore. Looked great--and short stories are fun for when I'm busy & don't have time to read.

The book was NOT GOOD. I really hope this isn't her usual fare--it was terrible. The back-stories about Clay & Malcolm & Jeremy were bleak & depressing & drawn-out. Mostly boring, very little to "enjoy" in the stories...they just went on & on & on.

But the worst was the story of Clay's very existence. From the time of his birth this character had a horrible life. And his childhood & young-adult experiences only became more violent and tragic.

I hope he's a happy character in later books. This book definitely makes me NOT want to read Kelley Armstrong. Bummer.
