Symbols of the Church

Helpful Score: 2

A thin book packed with black-and-white pictorial symbols accompanied by short descriptions of varying information related to each symbol. Few symbols are duplicated throughout the book. The book is seperated into 6 segments:

Symbols of the Old and New Testaments, which include 4 pages on Crosses (25 pages)
Symbols of the Apostles (3 pages)
Symbols of Saints (10 pages)
Denominational Symbols (1.5 pages)
Liturgical Colors (1 page)
The Christian Year (1 page)

There are approximately 6-7 symbols and descriptions listed on each full page of the first 4 parts. The last 2 segments do not include any pictoral symbols.

Often, books of this nature seem to include few pictoral images, instead being mostly text. That is not the case with this book. The pictures are somewhat small (evidently to save space and money in printing), but this is still one of the more quickly informative religious symbol books I've had the pleasure of reading, and is packed with imagery. The next time I see a shield denoting a fish lying on top of a book, this is the book I'll be referencing!
