An enthralling read as Crook slips easily from the voice of the present-day protagonist to her great-grandmother, the author of the famous journals. The book draws you in to both ends of the 4 generations of women, their loves and lack thereof and the flavor of the world around them.
A nice mix of mystery and fictional history.
