The second in the series, this book is just as fun as the first. It's 1893 and the two Amlingmeyer boys are still broke and unemployed. But they luck out - maybe - when they get hired as guards on the railroad. It's going to be a bumpy ride, since Old Red gets "trainsick" practically before the train starts moving. And that's why they're outside on the platform watching when the body of the baggage handler goes flying off the train. Old Red won't pass up this opportunity to emulate his hero Sherlock Holmes, and so Big Red once again reluctantly becomes his Watson. Train robbers, a drunk detective, a mysterious Chinese gentleman and a sweet young lady who's more than she appears all make this an entertaining yarn. Easy to start here if you haven't read the first.
