It was a beautiful, heart-wrenching story about a girl trying to keep her head above water along with everyone else. With her father gone and her mother in jail, it is up to Kiara and her brother, Marcus, to fend for themselves. Yet Marcus has dreams of becoming a famous rapper and nothing is going to stand in his way. So Kiara sets out to find work. When a misunderstanding happens, Kiara, ends up finding herself in one of the oldest professions... prostitution (aka nightcrawling). She doesn't enjoy it but it pays the bills and keeps them fed. She ends up getting entangled in an investigation with the police and her world is turned upside down.
This books is really depressing but the light of Kiara shines brightly and keeps you moving through the book following this brilliant star. No matter what she goes through, she always holds her head up high and keeps moving forward. Seeing that the author got this story from real events had me doing a lot of research afterwards. I love when a book does that!
