Jacob is leading a normal life and has a very close relationship with his grandfather, Abe. His grandfather is always telling Jacob outrageous tales about his childhood and the island and home he grew up in.
Jacob has learned to kind of think of grandfather's stories as just that as he gets older. Then his grandfather dies in a violent way, witnessed by Jacob, and Jacob goes in search of the home and island that his grandfather told him so much about.
Jacob goes to the island and the home and finds another whole world that exists within our world. Children with powers beyond human capabilities, headmistresses who can change from human to bird, and legends of lifetimes.
I would definitely recommend the read. Ransom Riggs has a wonderful way with language and draws you right in.
