The Night Huntress series continues to pick up speed in its third installment, At Grave's End. Half-vampire Cat Crawfield and her 250-year-old vampire boyfriend, Bones, have made a commitment to be together no matter how many obstacles are in their way. Despite the hatred of Cat's mother, the disapproval of her boss and team members and the natural difficulties of being in love with a Master Vampire, Cat is happier than she's ever been.

Typically, that happiness is short-lived when Cat's mother taken by one of her greatest enemies. That threat begins a domino effect of troubles that seem to stem from the mysterious Menenches, an ageless and ancient Egyptian vampire who is Bones' grandsire and co-master of his line. Soon, Bones' life is in danger and everyone Cat loves is next. A new enemy is revealed with an unthinkable and insatiable army, and Cat is left to -- what else? Save the world.

New characters such as Menenches and the infamous and chuckle-worthy Vlad breathe new life into the story. I really loved the kitchy addition of Vlad, and hope to see more of him in future novels. In addition to these new players, old favorites are back and returning characters from other novels also return in enhanced roles (and in come cases, different forms.) Frost is masterful at creating realistic, humorous banter in the midst of surreal fantasy situations. That's one of the "it factors" that makes her books so special and so readable in a sea of other, similar material in the paranormal romance/urban fantasy genre.

Predictably, I can't wait to devour the next book, Destined for an Early Grave.
