Pretty much the most coherent thing I said after reading this anthology was WOW! Who would think Lackey could combine the Fae and a bomb disposal expert over in Bosnia? She did! And if you'd said that Michael Longcor could combine an Amish boy, a drug-pushing biker gang and an evil elf, I wouldn't have believed you--but I'd have been wrong. And if you know what Brisingr is, would you think the Beautiful people would be involved? What about a saxophone-playing elf in New Orleans during Mardi-Gras? A great anthology!
From paper overcover: Mercedes Lackey and Rosemary Edghill are the biggest names in the urban fantasy subgenre--where elves, banshees, trolls, and even stranger creatures walk modern city streets, their presence, and even their existence unsuspected by the human inhabitants.
Now these two present a volume of all new urban fantasy, with a stellar lineup of the best new fantasy writers, such as Roberta Gellis, Dave Freer and Eric Flint, Diana Paxton, and more--including two new stories and an afterword by Mercedes Lackey and a new story by Rosemary Edghill.
What happens when a serial killer who travels from mall to mall looking for teenage prey runs into one of the Sidhe whose mission is to protect children... or when a pair of Sidhe must desperately search for a bottle in which a very powerful and dangerous djinn is trapped... or an itinerant fiddle-singer at a South African pub turns out to be a supernatural creature out of Gaelic mythology... or, stepping back in time from the modern world, the Fair Folk get involved in America's Civil War?
These intriguing tales, and much more make this an indispensable volume for fans of urban fantasy in general, and the thousands of fans of Mercedes Lackey and Rosemary Edghill in particular.
