Dead Until Dark was so bad I couldn't even finish the flimsy, 300-page book. I could not get over the writing to even allow myself to get into the story. Plus, the dialog was cheesy. Does anyone talk like this?

I don't have a problem with first person, but Sookie goes around describing everyone around her like they're police suspects. Blond hair, blue eyes, 5' 9". No one thinks like that, well, maybe people in law enforcement, but that's how all her descriptions are.

Then, it's hard to get into a book when all the characters are two-dimensional and not even that likeable. Some are just a waste of space. The plot is interesting, but not when seen through Sookie's bubble-headed brain.

It's too bad. I bought the first three books expecting that I'd really like them, but was so disappointed :-( All my friends kept telling me how great the series was. Also, I watched a few episodes of True Blood and did not care for it as well, but at least the story moved a lot more smoothly than it did in the book.

Final thought, if you liked True Blood and can get past Sookie's narration and the weak characters, you'll probably enjoy Dead Until Dark.
