One thing we all seem to agree on is that this true story evokes intense emotions due to the horrific child abuse Dave Pelzer suffered at the hand of his mother. I never read anything this tragic, and how morally disgusting and spiritually sinful that these things really happened!
I barely got through this book, I cried, I was angry, I had to phone a friend and rant about what I was reading, but in the end I was shown this beautiful man, who rose like a Phoenix from the flames and used his sad childhood as motivation to help others who are abused, instead of using it as a crutch to give up. He turned tragedy into triumph, and he found love and healing against the odds. It should be inspiration for us all to work on healing our past and to rise above our current problems, helping one another. It is not about what we went through per se, but what we learn and choose to do with it.
