I love this book. I'm not into blood and guts, so vampires and werewolves typically don't do it for me. I do love a good occult fantasy, but I usually go for tongue in cheek stories like the Witch series by Annette Blair, or the Immortally Sexy series by Stephanie Rowe. But this book was more than just a tale of horror. For me it was like Romeo and Juliet, the story of two unlikely lovers denying their radically different worlds to exist in their own cozy haven.
It's also a story of patience and compromise. When they first meet, Edward literally can't stand to be near Bella. And her attraction to his breath leaves her completely vulnerable. They are able to overcome the physical obstacles, and by the end of the book they can share a kiss without bloodshed, and Edward almost never holds his nose anymore!
But they have yet to overcome their emotional obstacles. On to book 2...
