Oddly enough, I think Nicholas Sparks's stories make better movies than books. The mundane details just don't do much for me as a reader. I just don't find enough depth in his books to keep me interested and this one was the same way. I was happy to see that the theatrical ending was slightly different than the book's, but I think this was not one of his better ones all the way around. There are much better stories out there so while Dear John is "ok" I certainly wouldn't recommend it.
