I read one of Edna Buchanan's other books called The Cold Case Squad. In reading a review I found the characters in the book had been introduced in this book, so I obtained it from Paperbackswap, not knowing it was part of a long running series.
I really liked this book. A burglar is killed while trying to rob a convenience store in Miami. His body leads to the reopening of a case of kidnapping, rape and homicide from 17 years earlier. The rape victim Sunny Hartley has become a reclusive and eccentric artist. The publicity surrounding the case leads to some unwelcome attention to both Sunny and Britt Montero, the journalist covering the story. With a surprising revelation regarding the kidnapping and a shocking ending this was a very enjoyable read, and has me looking to go back to the start of the series.
