When they compared this book to Dexter, they weren't kidding.
Summary:
Lane is a senior who works part time at a Veterinary hospital. Her parents both work for the FBI. While the two of them work on cases, they may share a bit too much with Lane (or she happens to get too much information) about their cases. She's become completely fascinated with serial killers and thinks that she may be building up to a murderer herself. She wants to see those that hurt innocents punished for their crimes. When a case that her parents are working on stumbles into her lap, she has to make the decision to tell or to try something else. Will vigilante justice win out, or will she follow the rules of the system?
My thoughts:
The similarities to Dexter (the television show) is easily seen. It almost is like a checklist, but Lane also has a bit of her own personality. She is growing up and finding what her way will be in the world, whereas Dexter has these things taught to him in a specific manner. While I don't agree that the ending was a big surprise, it is tempting enough to want to keep reading. I figured what probably would happen and was right. I didn't particularly fall in love with Lane, but she is three-dimensional and someone that you understand by the end of the novel. Other than that, it is a decent mystery with a good amount of suspense and tension. I'd definitely stick with an older audience based upon violence, sexuality, drug use, and illegal activities.
