I was introduced to Bentley Little by a fellow bibliophile that knew how much I loved a good horror story. She told me that Little would give Stephen King nightmares.
I don't know if that's true... but Bentley Little does give me nightmares. I never thought I'd find myself saying that a book was too gruesome or too frightening.... but those are the words I'd choose when describing "The Revelation." And frankly, the other three Little novels I read this year, all of which are currently listed on PaperbackSwap.com because they make my bookshelf feel dirty.
Without giving much of anything away, I can tell you that this particular award-winning novel includes reanimated dead zombie babies, desecrated churches and other little surprises too gross to actually write about here. It takes a lot to disgust me, but this book did it. If you are truly a hard-core horror lover, this book is for you. Little is masterful when it comes to scaring readers and grossing them out. The writing is good. But I guess I'm too old for this kind of storytelling anymore. I actually felt relieved when I could close this book for good and put it away, and that's not how I like to end a story. Read at your own risk.
