I have mixed feelings about this one. I don't know why, but I guess I was expecting something different than what it was.
The book itself has a very dark tone. I've read a LOT of vampire books without cringing, but this one had me cringing quite a bit. There are several vampire "covens" in it, and the non-vampire members enjoy drinking human blood. And it is described. That just creeped me out.
I also disliked just about every character right up until the last 50 pages or so, where we finally get to see a bit of a connection between anyone in the story. I even considered setting it down a few times.
I did read the excerpt at the end from the sequel, and since I'd finally begun to like the characters a little by the end of the book, I am considering at least one more try with this series. I just don't think it'll be one that I'll run right out to grab it when it comes out.
