I am already grieving. This is the second-to-last book until the endâI've read and enjoyed each and every one of M A Nichol's books. Ms. Nichols feels things deeply and is able to convey those emotions to her readers. This one is no different.
Marian told her best friend, George Finch, that she had feelings for him. Although generally a gracious man, he responded to Marian insultingly. He was courting another and married her. Five years later, George returns home. In the meantime, he realized he'd made a mistake by choosing a pretty face instead of a friend and confidant.
George wants to tell Marian what he's learned, but she is not interested in hearing it. Thus, George has to take his time and reestablish his friendship with Marian. He also learns that his wife, Juliette, was a thorn in the side of his family by finding fault with them until Mr. Finch had to send Juliette and George to Manchester (and away from George's family). George learns that he was too blind to see what his parents tried to tell him.
Both George and Marian must learn new things before they are ready to become a coupleâanother great story.
