Jenny and Eliza Jane Sutherland's father created the Sutherland Brick Company. Jenny Lee married Mr. Sutherland's protege, Royce Dunlap. When their father died, Eliza received one-half of the company and Jenny's half went to Royce.

Before long, Royce's true colors emerge; he is indifferent to his invalid wife and son, Tyler. His only concerns are looking prosperous and caring to the citizens of Silver Bend, Montana, and gathering more wealth. Eliza spends her days caring for her sister, who is growing more frail and keeping up her nephew's spirits. Only Eliza knows Royce's ultimate plans -- marry her and own the entire business.

Eliza has been secreting her money, waiting for the time she and Tyler run away from Royce and all they know. However, when her sister dies, she is devastated to learn that Royce has stolen her hidden money. Frantically seeking a way out, she announces at the wake that she and Tyler will move to the town hotel, since she cannot live in her home un-chaperoned (with Royce).

Jonas Black is a hero of your dreams. He has admired Eliza for a long time. As owner of the town hotel and saloon, he has come up the hard way to his position as a respected business owner and councilman. Watch how Jonas settles Lillibell's temper; it is a treat.

When Eliza and Tyler arrive at the hotel, she asks Jonas for a job -- and that he not tell Royce about it. Jonas is intrigued -- what is she hiding?

Everything is perfect; the characters are interesting; the plot moves at a great pace and there's action aplenty.
