this book is intended as a guide for taking you on these walks, but i am enjoying it whethere i ever get to go back to the uk or not. the descriptions of the areas and of the historic houses, castles, etc. are definitely good enough to 'take you there'. i've only read a little bit and i'm already fascinated with the information it has included. i never knew that astor lived in hever castle for 80 years and restored it after it had gone from being the residence of a queen, to being a storehouse for farmers and a 'barn' for their animals. - or - the area around bodiam castle that is now farmland, was once an inland waterway, as they found a 65 foot danish ship under the ground there.

the actual directions for the walks are minutely detailed and would be great to use if you were planning a trip to the area.
