I was torn on this one...started off loving it when she talked about becoming a waiter for the four-star New York restaurant "Per Se." She went into delicious detail about the amazing food served there, the details of her job, the months of training needed to become good enough to be a head waiter, a back waiter, a Captain, etc. That part of the book is fascinating and exactly what I was hoping the book would feature.
But then she started getting deeper into her personal life, and my initial annoyance over her whining quickly turned to dislike, because for such a hard-working dedicated professional in the work place, she was a total loser at home.
From her pathetic romance life of living with a non-commiting cheater (and thinking he's wonderful as long as she pretended he wasn't a non-committing cheater) to her snobbish liberal views of how great she is because she lives in a tiny box of an apartment with no TV or washing machine, I just found her stupid.
If she'd stuck to talking about the restaurant, the food, and the people who worked and dined there, it would have been a 5-star book. Instead, I couldn't wait to finish it so I could give it away.
