Charles Moray was jilted at the altar by Margaret Langton four years ago. He returns to London to find his ex-fiancée mixed up in a vicious plot involving kidnapping and other things. The victim is Margot Standing who stands to inherit a considerable fortune. But the sinister figure in the Grey mask has other plans for her. Margaret Langton is one of the conspirators, but Charles refuses to believe that she is a criminal. So how did she become involved? He turns to Miss Silver for her professional assistance in uncovering the strange truth behind the details of the situation, and the identity of the terrifying and mysterious individual behind the grey mask. This is the first book in the Miss Silver series. The characters are mysterious as they are notified as numbers. The plot is one that leaves me reading until the very end. I will be continuing with the series as I do enjoy Golden Age mysteries. If you like mysteries from 1928 then you will love this book.
