This was my first book by this author. Starting out, I liked the writing but wasn't liking the main character, Zoey. I kept with it and found that there were many more characters that were folded into this story. On top of that, Zoey grew on me and I ended up finding her quite charming. All the characters live at small apartment building on Mallow Island. A pleasant little place that is named after the colorful birds that also inhabit the area. Each character is struggling with something and until Zoey arrives, they struggle alone. Before long, they find each other and confront their struggles with the help of some ghosts. I thought I would like this book but didn't know I'd end up enjoying it as much as I did.
