What a fantastic conclusion to this trilogy with the strongest female protagonist yet. It still had the love-stricken angst from the first two but not half as bad as the second. In this one, Annah, the scarred twin sister of Gabry from the second book, finds herself captive in The Sanctuary, the last stronghold of the living, a veritable prison run by the living Recruiters, a group of male soldiers on a power-trip. Their relentless nastiness and blatant sexism toward Annah felt kind of poorly-written to me but I haven't lived post-apocalypse so I can't know what that's like.
Catcher is bad in all his glorious immunity, as helpful as ever. I like that guy. Elias and Gabry are annoying individually, doubly so as a couple. The last 35 pages were absolute page-turners, following Annah through the city. Crazy!
*****possible spoiler*****
The endingwell, it's appropriate for the audience. It's a plot obviously concocted by a group of starry-eyed, optimistic teens.
