Nikki Boyd is a Special Agent with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigations, Missing Persons Task Force. She chose this line of work after her sister, Sarah, disappeared nearly ten years ago. The case was never solved. On her day off work, a rock-climbing outing with her friend Tyler is cut short when her boss contacts her. Sixteen-year-old Bridget Ellison has disappeared from a nearby cabin where she was staying with her brother and some friends. After interviewing everyone, Nikki thinks the girl may have gotten lost in the woods. But when a piece of evidence turns up, Nikki begins to believe that Bridget may have been seized by the same man who kidnapped her sister.
This is the first book in the Nikki Boyd series. The investigation leads us into the Great Smokey Mountains National Park, one of my favorite places to visit. The suspense story was well done. I never did guess the villain correctly. There is a hint of potential romance between Nikki and her friend Tyler Grant. Tyler's wife was Nikki's best friend who was killed in an accident. I'm guessing there will be a slow burn romance over the course of this series. I did find the writing to be a bit odd. Sometimes we had a scene with new characters who came out of nowhere. I needed more explanation about who they were. My rating: 3.5 Stars.
