ILLUSION was the April 2013 pick in my neighborhood book club.
It started off with intrigue: a 19-year-old girl is at a carnival with friends in 1970, only to suddenly find herself instantaneously teleported 40 years into the future, to 2010! So, of course, I found it hard to put down at first, being so curious about what was going on with Mandy.
Unfortunately, that didn't last long. Shortly thereafter, the plot and narrative slowed to a snail's pace, not to mention becoming repetitive to a fault. And at 560 pages, that wasn't a good thing. The characters who'd initially been intriguing became flat, uninteresting and no longer held my attention.
Long and short of it without spoilers? This book had a dynamite premise, but it suffered greatly from an extremely lackluster execution.
