Those who have read Cinder will know that Meyer uses the old fairy tale of Cinderella as a model for her story. There is a prince, a poor girl who is mistreated by her stepmother and stepsisters, and a royal ball complete with a lost shoe (foot). Scarlet continues this storytelling premise by following the story of Little Red Riding Hood. Scarlet of course is Little Red Riding Hood, complete with an ever present red hoodie. Scarlet is also plagued by a man she doesnt know if she can trust or not, who is named Wolf. The two are also looking for her grandmother. If this isnt enough for the reader Meyer also starts each section of the book off with a quote from Little Red Riding Hood.
Overall, I really liked this sci-fi future dystopian book, just as I did the original Cinder. I would recommend this book to anyone who loved the first in the series and to anyone who loves fractured fairy tales or dystopian sci-fi books. I would give this 4.5/5.
