Her fiance leaves her, when learning that she is penniless. Caroline agrees to become the mistress to a wealthy man, Nicolas, in order to ensure the futures of her siblings. Nicholas wants more than just to have Caroline's body, he wants her heart. This is a very romantic, very sweet romance. I loved it.
