This book was on my tbr pile for many, MANY years before I decided to read it. That was because of the controversy surrounding it, as I wasn't sure it would be worth reading. In spite of the accusations that the author was NOT an addict, that the book was a lie, I decided to give it a chance. Boy, I am SO glad that I did! The very fact that he was able to describe the pain and angst of a recovering alcoholic and addict with so much detail, without ever having experienced it, was to my mind brilliant. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this book. Now if I can get hold of the sequel, My Friend Leonard, that would be perfect. D.
