What keeps me reading the Survivor's Club is the emotional ties between seven friends who have been through difficult times together. They are all individuals who have survived the Napoleonic Wars and have come together to help each other make a new life. They help through listening, advising, laughter and caring.
Viscount Darleigh was blinded in his first battle and is surrounded by female relatives who want to do everything for him -- including finding a wife. However, Vincent runs away with his valet.
Sophia Fry is a perceptive young woman, short on looks and stature, who saves Vincent from the machinations of her cousin. The cousin was trying to trap him in marriage. For helping Vincent, Sophia is thrown from her home with her relatives. Vincent finds out and offers her marriage -- and an arrangement.
