I have mixed emotions about this book. I started it, put it down, read 2 other books, then decided to give it another go. The heroine bothered me a lot in the beginning. There she is, just finished with her residency, so she's a doctor, but emotionally she's still in junior high, which really doesn't excite me as a reader. Then there's the guy she's had a crush on for 20 years. She finally gets his attention and I really thought that, the way he is written, she was going to realize that, good looking as he is, he was mentally simple. Really. I thought he was. Instead the author asks me to believe that this 30 year old man is simply too immature to understand that a chaperon at a school dance shouldn't be giving the boys a bottle of alcohol. A real pity that the author used such tricks to drive her heroine into some else's arms because she really nailed writing the cop-hero. She should have done so well with the other characters.
