Apparently a movie has been made of this novel, though I haven't seen it.
A teen-ager panics and suddenly he is SOMEWHERE ELSE--somewhere miles away from his previous location. At first he suspects he had some sort of blackout because his abusive parent did something horrible and his mind won't let him remember exactly what happened.
Later he discovers he can teleport.
After that, things get interesting. Well worth reading!
