The Iron Thorn is the first in the Iron Codex series by Caitlin Kittredge. I have loved Caitlin Kittredge's other series, Black London and Nocturne City, so when I saw she had another series coming out I knew immediately I would give it a try. As with her other series, Kittredge manages to build an amazing world with vivid characters that suck the reader in.
Aoife Grayson has spent part of her life living as an orphan while attending a prestigious school. Her mother, locked in a madhouse, tells Aoife about her dreams and stories when Aoife visits. Her bother, Conrad, is missing and she has never met her father. One day a mysterious letter arrives, just like several she has received in the past. This letter has "Help me" written on it, with the help of her best friend Cal, Aoife begins a trip that will change her entire world.
The Iron Thorn is the first Steampunk genre book I have read so I wasn't sure exactly what to expect. Therefore I can not compare it to others in the genre. Within the first few chapters I was pulled into Aoife's life and about halfway through the book I started to not be able to put it down! This book is filled with interesting characters, non-stop action and even has twists that the reader doesn't see coming. The Iron Thorn is a book you can not put down with a world that you want to learn more and more about! I am eagerly waiting for the next novel in this series.
