I didn't care for this book; it seemed to me to be one cliche piled on top of another. In the first few pages, there's the heroine who must find the killer of her father/brother/husband/uncle (odd how women so seldom get offed as a plot motivation) - who was involved in spying - so heroine must search the library at midnight - in the home of am eligible and dazzlingly attractive Earl. Nothing fresh was done with any of these tropes, nor did the writing interest me. I didn't care about any of the sterotypical characters in it and I gave up part way in.
