This is getting to be a habit; once again, I have read the third of a trilogy before the other two. Bummer!

Cousins Tyrell Fannin and Isaac Burnet married in the previous two books. Tyrell and Isaac married the two older Lavalle sisters Delia and Fairlee. Now, it is Micah Burnets turn with the youngest sister, Tempest Lavalle.

Tempest was accurately named; she shoots, wears trousers, rides astride a horse and has opinions, that shes happy to share (whether the listener is interested or not). She also has a hair-trigger temper. She and Micah are not friends; they barely tolerate each others existence.

Micah is engaged to be married (Sally Duval) and suddenly she takes ill and dies. However, she makes a death bed confession to her fiancée. This admission rocks Micahs world and he has problems finding resolution.

My main beef with this story is that it spent too much time recounting the exciting bits from the previous 2 books. Carolyn Brown, however, is excellent at developing characters; in less than 200 pages she offers enough information so the reader is interested in the characters and what happens to them.

This is a nice novella about the importance of family especially when trouble comes.
