This book does an excellent job of explaining the difference between "the kingdom of God" and "the kingdom of the world." It presents the central teachings of Jesus as "live to expand God's kingdom on earth" and shows that this can never be accomplished via worldly means (politics, culture, war, coercion, force, asserting your rights, etc). It also explains how the kingdom of God does grow... when Christians "come under" others in love, which may not immediately change another's behavior, but is the only way to change another's heart. Trying to use power over others may get temporal results, but when it is done in the name of Jesus, it damages the growth of God's kingdom and the credibility of the Gospel.

Fabulous reading for Christ-followers and others who want to understand how and why the marriage of politics and Christianity is wrecking havoc on American society and God's church. Well-written, well-researched, thoroughly contemplated, compellingly presented, and likely to raise the ire of right-wing conservative evangelicals and liberals alike. One of the best Christian books I've read in recent years.
