These stories are pretty good, and move fast since they're short-stories linked into one larger novel. However, her male-dominance isn't sexy--it's frightening. She attempts a shifter society like Nalini Singh's changelings--where the male is dominant, but loves & protects his mate at all costs--and she falls flat. Very very flat.

McCarty's males are "my way or the highway" abusers--they simply tell a woman NO & shut her up with force if need be--and "discipline" her if she acts out. Scary stuff in this age of abused & battered women.

She also has a sickness for ANAL SEX. It's just wrong. She ruins a perfectly good, erotic sex scene with what amounts to forcible anal rape. For any woman who's had to endure that...I feel sorry.

So I liked the books, but I was disturbed by them at the same time. Wait for them to be traded--don't buy them like I did.
