This book not only transported me into the wine region of California but, more importantly, into the lives of its three main characters and the ways in which they dealt with grief and loss. And it reminded me how children struggle to understand the humanity of their parents and that parents just as easily lose track of the fragility and needs of their children. It also reinforced to me how, without open, honest communication, people complicate life processes that are complicated enough without communication woes too. And yet, without complete trust, such communication is impossible. This book made me see parts of myself in each of the characters, both the main characters and the secondary ones, and see parts of those I love in them too. This is a book well worth reading.
