At first I didn't like Julia Poe, but she did grow on me. I tried to forgive her for being orphaned at eight years old and not having any human contact to help socialize her. Movies and books are not good examples for social skills! Everytime I would start accepting and liking her, she would say or do something hurtful and childish out of her ignorance (and the situation) and I wouldn't like her again. Overall, I did end up caring about what happened to her and wanted to help her grow up from her unfortunate past.

The plot of the story is original and well done, with a lot of action. The ending was almost anti-climatic, and I would have liked for it to have gone another way. But, it leaves the storyline open for a sequel, which is due out in winter 2010. I think for this author's first book, it is very good and I look forward to the next one.
