A very good sci fi book. I'll quote Poul Anderson: "As a story, COLD AS ICE takes people one cares about through gathering tension to a breathless climax. But it is also a fascinating tour of several worlds and a vision of what humans may do and discover upon them. Charles Sheffield is both an authoritative scientist and a hell of a spinner of yarns."
