This isn't an overall history of UFOs; for that you need Richard Dolan's histories. Nor was it done for entertainment purposes. What it is is a series of articles and first person accounts bolstering the author's argument that we need a serious scientific investigation of this subject and that the US should form a small official body with contacts and links to experts in all fields who could be called in at a moment's notice when there is an incident, with no agenda other than finding out what these things are, gathering as much information about them as possible and making their findings known to the public. Other countries have such bureaus, but in the US there is a cultural taboo against being serious about this topic. The article by political scientists about the nature and effect of this taboo was the most interesting part to me; I have not seen this summarized so well anywhere else. Recommended.
