This is the first book in a series and it accomplished what it set out to do: Establish the main characters and make you like them. I liked the heroine, Liz McCall, very much; she was easy to befriend! She is helping her father out by moving back to her hometown and assisting her father with his new antique toy store. He sunk all his pension into it and is not the best at business. He had been chief of police in their small town but was shot and wounded severely and had to retire. He still likes to go out periodically and arrest people. Citizen's arrest, of course. That drives Jamie crazy! We also meet a former boyfriend, the one that stood her up for their prom, the new chief of police who is really nice and nice to look at, her brother and sister-in-law, her cat, Othello and various other characters. And then somebody gets killed. It wasn't nearly to the end before I figured out who-dunnit. There was a lot of humor in it (which is essential to me) especially the occasional pun contest. It was a fun book to read and I highly recommend it!
