This was part good...and then part bad.
It kept my attention, but I didn't think the author was quite able to pull off everything she was trying to do. She's a good storyteller and there's a lot of good story here, but she didn't seem to really own it, if that makes any sense -- almost as if this were her first novel. It's the transition from the everyday lives of the main characters to the bigger fantasy theme that really didn't work. I was really enjoying the story up until then, but that part just fell flat. I'm actually kinda frustrated because it just seems like this could have been so much better if they had spent a little more time on it!
I won't be continuing on with this series. I'm just not interested after the way this one ended.
