I really wanted to like this book because the concept is so wonderful - a college for supernatural beings! However, I couldn't get a handle on what genre it really is, so the reading experience was one of frustration. Are we supposed to be rooting for the heroine and her lover to get together like in a romance - well, maybe not, because then she might end up dead! Is it a "serious work" with a sad but meaningful ending - well, not quite, lots of steamy sex and a cliffhanger because it's the first in a series. If you like things ambiguous and open ended, you'll probably enjoy this. I won't be reading the next book, which is a shame, because I really would like to know more about the mythical creatures from around the world.
